The city of Belpre was one of the first Solar Adopters, installing solar panels on their city building as early as 2008. In 2018 Belpre approached us to donate several electric vehicle charging stations, which are currently installed in their Civitan Park. Through this discussion we began to look over options for additional solar PV installations on Belpre City Buildings.

We decided to install a solar system on the roof of the Fire Station on Washington Boulevard, which provides a good opportunity for the community to see Belpre’s commitment to sustainable energy programs while offsetting most of the power used in the building. The 27 kW system uses 90-Silfab (a Canadian Company) 300W panels and 4-SMA Sunny Boy 7.7 kW inverters, producing around 31,000 kWH of energy annually.

This solar system will save the City of Belpre approximately $200 per year in utility costs and void the release of 32 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually; the equivalent of 27 acres of trees, or the annual output of 6 automobiles.

Thanks to the City of Belpre and their leadership for pioneering renewable energy in the region and for setting a good example for the community and surrounding Cities. Thanks to Appalachian Renewable Power for the design, installation and commissioning of this system.
